<div>
2nd Year animators have just completed their first shot in their major project animation.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
It is time to go back to the storyboard and choose the next shot to animate. Time to review what was learnt about storyboarding.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
A storyboard can be adjusted <strong>(if it is your own project)</strong> to better understand what needs to be animated.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Roughing out the next shot, from a project storyboard, in a shot storyboard of its own is a valuable starting point moving into the next bit of animation to complete.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Bill Plympton on how he uses storyboards:</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<iframe src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/43038733?byline=0&portrait=0&color=ff9933" width="500" height="281" frameborder="0" webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe></div>
<div>
A storyboard is a critical part of the process of making a film. Many decisions are made and ideas resolved in the storyboards. The story takes form and begins to be explained. Many things are planned in a storyboard:</div>
<ul>
<li>character designs develop</li>
<li>movement and action is depicted</li>
<li>editing and transition choices noted</li>
<li>meaningful camera angles</li>
<li>camera lens choices made (e.g. wide angle, fish eye, macro, 35mm)</li>
<li>lighting</li>
<li>backgrounds/ sets</li>
<li>composition and staging choices for storytelling</li>
<li>dialogue</li>
<li>sound effects</li>
<li>music</li>
<li>timing (SLUG)</li>
</ul>

In fact I encourage it. One reason is that the doodlebrain is disconnected from the chatterbox and that makes it easier, as an instructor, to present information. Doodling helps students to remember. So please doodle!<br /><br /><object width="512" height="315"><br /><param name="movie" value="http://video.ted.com/assets/player/swf/EmbedPlayer.swf"></param><br /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><br /><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"/><br /><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><br /><param name="bgColor" value="#ffffff"></param><br /><param name="flashvars" value="vu=http://video.ted.com/talk/stream/2011/Blank/SunniBrown_2011-320k.mp4&su=http://images.ted.com/images/ted/tedindex/embed-posters/SunniBrown_2011-embed.jpg&vw=512&vh=288&ap=0&ti=1230&lang=&introDuration=15330&adDuration=4000&postAdDuration=830&adKeys=talk=sunni_brown;year=2011;theme=a_taste_of_ted2011;theme=the_creative_spark;theme=new_on_ted_com;theme=presentation_innovation;event=TED2011;tag=Business;tag=Culture;tag=creativity;tag=presentation;&preAdTag=tconf.ted/embed;tile=1;sz=512x288;" /><br /><embed src="http://video.ted.com/assets/player/swf/EmbedPlayer.swf" pluginspace="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" bgColor="#ffffff" width="512" height="315" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" flashvars="vu=http://video.ted.com/talk/stream/2011/Blank/SunniBrown_2011-320k.mp4&su=http://images.ted.com/images/ted/tedindex/embed-posters/SunniBrown_2011-embed.jpg&vw=512&vh=288&ap=0&ti=1230&lang=&introDuration=15330&adDuration=4000&postAdDuration=830&adKeys=talk=sunni_brown;year=2011;theme=a_taste_of_ted2011;theme=the_creative_spark;theme=new_on_ted_com;theme=presentation_innovation;event=TED2011;tag=Business;tag=Culture;tag=creativity;tag=presentation;&preAdTag=tconf.ted/embed;tile=1;sz=512x288;"></embed><br /></object>Frankhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16735300076419917663noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2672748823714736344.post-30473028586110172202011-09-22T01:46:00.004+10:002011-09-22T01:52:08.563+10:00Animation ScoutAt the beginning of second semester the second year animators were introduced to more detail about facial animation. As time hurries on to the final few weeks they will be working their way back up to their character(s) eyes. Here is an interesting resource: <a href="http://www.animationscout.tv/">http://www.animationscout.tv</a> <br /><br /><iframe height="384" src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/25426882?title=0&byline=0&portrait=0" frameborder="0" width="512"></iframe>Frankhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16735300076419917663noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2672748823714736344.post-70253831869040636612011-09-20T20:09:00.004+10:002011-09-20T20:15:20.336+10:00Animated Film Preview/ Trailer DesignThe second years are powering forward with their major projects. Most surveyed in class plan to complete a whole animated narrative film. Some are realising that animation takes a lot of time and that learning animation while doing animation sometimes means doing things over and over again to get them working. The option for some animators will be to create a film trailer/preview that features at least 5 Essential Animation Principles Scenes (EAPS)<br /><br />Beleow is a trailer for a completed film from a student (3rd year) at the Academy of Arts University (AAU) in San Francisco. How many EAPS can you see?<br /><br />Let me know if you can find the complete film to view.<br /><br /><iframe width="512" height="290" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/QwTc4F6QzCY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>Frankhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16735300076419917663noreply@blogger.com0
